TJ (Tommie Jane) Lane has worked in sterling silver and 18K gold jewelry and thimbles for over 30 years. TJ, her daughter Cynthia, and son-in-law Matt Brammeier, work from their home studios in Boone, NC and Lincoln, NE respectively. They meet up at several quilt shows during the year.
About the thimbles and tools:
We work primarily in Sterling Silver. 18K gold is available upon request - and is priced based on the weight of the piece and price of gold on the date of shipment (plus gems and other customizations).
If an item we sell is not Sterling Silver, we will state it clearly.
Our Guarantee:
We guarantee our thimbles for life. If you quilt a hole in one of our thimbles we will repair it. We are not currently charging for the repair, however we do ask for $10 to cover return postage within the US, and $15 to Canada. For Canadian repairs - please send a credit card number, no Canadian money order sor checks. This same guarantee includes our Needle Threaders, if the threader wire breaks or comes out of the tube. Please see "Shipping" regarding packing and mailing items to us for repair.
A little about TJ:
TJ Lane learned silversmithing at the University of Arizona in Tucson in the 1960's. She loved the class so much she took it three times! TJ was an elementary and then high school teacher in the late 1960's and early 1970's. In the early 1970's TJ left her high school teaching job and began making jewelry. She taught silversmithing at the local community college and wrote articles for Lapidary Journal on silversmithing - including how to make a thimble.
In the early 1990's, TJ was invited to a quilt show, and the rest, as they say, is history. Quilters were immediately drawn to her beautiful thimbles, quality workmanship, and creative tools.
TJ's calendar of events grew fast - and in 2003 Cynthia quit her day job in government to work with her mom full time. In 2005, Cynthia took over the business. TJ still works on special orders, 18K gold, new creations, and travels to a few shows each year.
Our thimbles are entirely made in the USA. We use a New York based casting company, utilizing the lost wax method of casting, and do all of the finishing work and soldering, setting gems, etc. in our studios.
In 2003, we hired part time help. In late 2006, Cynthia's husband Matt became her permanent part time help in the Studio.
